Miscarriage is a term used for a pregnancy that ends on its own, within the first 20 weeks from the first day of a woman's last period. Studies show that anywhere between 10-25% of all pregnancies will end in miscarriage.

Recurrent Pregnancy Loss  is one of the most frustrating and painful fertility challenges a woman can experience.   One loss is devastating enough but the cycle of  expectation and disappointment that accompanies recurrent pregnancy loss can create feelings of despair.  This subject is not often spoken about and women may feel very isolated in their feeling of grief, anger, guilt of their bodies failing them. It is crucial for women and their families to feel supported at this time and to offer a nurturing environment for them to heal and have hope.

Miscarriage is most commonly caused by damaged egg or sperm cells, or a problem when fetal cells start to divide. Most of the time it is not something a person did or didn't do. It's the body recognising that something went wrong.

Chinese Medicine can offer support and hope for individuals dealing with miscarriage. Initially your acupuncturist will provide a safe, supported environment in which to grieve, heal and help reduce stress levels.  From the Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective much of miscarriage prevention occurs in the months leading up to pregnancy. Regular fertility acupuncture treatment prior to conception can help to manage stress, regulate the menstrual cycle and improve the uterine environment  by increasing blood flow – key elements to promoting a healthy uterine environment and pregnancy.
